Aku sebenarnya suka sih ama norton tapi aku mau coba yang lain sekarng aku coba bitdefender...

Norton 2009 products arrive focused on performance

When Symantec started developing the 2009 versions of its Norton products they decided to focus on making sure the software was much smaller, installed faster and generally had less bloat. In May they even claimed that the new products would have “zero impact” on PC performance.

This week Norton AntiVirus 2009 and Norton Internet Security 2009 have been released and need to live up to those earlier claims. Symantec say that they have implemented 300 improvements over their previous products and that an install will take just 52 seconds.

In terms of memory usage it can be as little as 7MB and a quick scan is said to take just 33 seconds to complete. Symantec also state that their 2009 products score 98% for malware detection and 95% for spyware detection on recent AV-Test testing.

Rowan Trollope, senior vice president of Consumer Business and Symantec said:

Today’s Norton is now proven to be faster and stronger than ever before … The products run light on the system, install in less than a minute and include industry first features like Norton Insight, which dramatically reduces the number of files that have to be scanned … This is the highest quality consumer product we’ve ever shipped

Matthew’s Opinion
A 52 second install is very impressive and so would the 7MB memory usage be if it wasn’t just the low-end. We need to know how much memory usage can increase by and what the average use is to really judge its performance.

I think quoting scan timings is misleading as it all depends on what is being scanned. If you have a fresh install of Windows and nothing else you would expect a scan to take less than 30 seconds. But what about a machine with a 500GB hard drive and multiple applications that has been in-use for several months?

I’m hopeful that the reviews that will appear about these new products do confirm Symantec has achieved its goal of zero-impact performance. By doing so they will lay down the gauntlet for competitors to follow and all our systems will benefit.
